The Loudoun Career Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 3756, has purchased and created 50 Autism Comfort Bags for every EMS transport unit in the county.
The bags contain a variety of fidget toys, ear muffs, a dry erase board, and a few EMS care tips cards to help providers care for patients with special needs.
An Autism awareness and EMS response training PowerPoint is also being released in conjunction with the bags that system members can review.
It was a several month project that was sadly delayed due to COVID-19. After two days of being placed on all county EMS units, one was used successfully for an Autism patient having seizures.
