LCFFA Creates Autism Care Bags for EMS Units

The Loudoun Career Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 3756, has purchased and created 50 Autism Comfort Bags for every EMS transport unit in the county. The bags contain a variety of fidget toys, ear muffs, a dry erase board, and a few EMS care tips cards to help providers care for patients with special needs.

An Autism awareness and EMS response training presentation is being released in conjunction with the bags that system members can review. It was a several month project that was sadly delayed due to COVID-19. After two days of being placed on all county EMS units, one was used successfully for an Autism patient having seizures.

We’ve had multiple inquiries on the links and contents of the bags for departments to create their own:

Please contact Jeremy Mader at j.mader@iaff3756.org for any questions about this project.

“A union representing some Loudoun County government employees says it has reached a key threshold of support that will trigger a formal petition for a union election that at least some employees hope will lead soon to a collective bargaining agreement.

Some of those county employees who have already joined the Loudoun Chapter of Service Employees International Union Local 512 celebrated the milestone at a June 9 press conference, arguing that collective bargaining would give them a “seat at the table” as county officials set their pay and working conditions.”
